I felt like taking out yesterday evening my beloved Daniel Smith watercolours and Arches Rough Paper Pad and doing a small painting of cactuses or cacti or whatever people might call these, I call these cactuses! I just love these unique looking plants and I have a small collection going on too!

''The golden ocean.''

Oh, how I enjoyed making my new mixed media piece on a wooden panel, 30 x 30 cm. I named it ''The Golden Ocean!'' It's dramatic, deep, full of character and it tells a story. I usually like using bright colours, vivid and bold but yesterday and today (finished it today!) I felt like doing this piece. The heroes are indeed the new waxes by Finnabair and of course the Raven Black Sparks Acrylic Paint. It says that it has a beautiful shimmer and shine you've never seen before. I most definitely agree! And also all that texture and mediums play a big role - raffia, sea shells, muslin cloth and tulle; gesso, gloss medium, Sculpture Medium, heavy gel medium, acrylic paints (used a few of my new Liquitex Muted ones) & Black Sand.
Sadly my camera didn't pick up fully all that golden shine and the shimmer from some parts of the Black Sparks too. Well I guess it just leaves some room for your imagination if you fancy!

And a pic from the before one, after gessoing -

Frame with patina-like effect

Good evening, I finished one small frame where I used a couple of new products from Finnabair - Patina Effect Pastes, Stone Effect Paste (Limestone) and two waxes. I truly took pleasure in making it and I achieved such a wonderful look.

Here you can see more closely the effect what I got using the waxes, I chose to use on these roses Lucky Emerald and Vintage Silk. And of course the Limestone is just over the top. I used a painting knife to spread it out on a glass, worked wonders!

Here I am at the very beginning as you can see. Masking tape came in very handy to protect the glass. Note that at this point I wasn't planning to use the Limestone Effect Paste yet.

After the second coat of Patina Effect pastes!

Entering my project to Mixed Media Place January Challenge. I got inspired from the colours mostly.

Another art journal spread

I set myself a mission to be more arty this year, today I am sharing with you (whoever you are and somehow stepped into my blog!) my latest art journal spread. Full of colours, with a bit of olde-worlde feeling and just plain fun. You have to feed your soul with an art that makes your heart jolly!
